Breast lump diagnosis

I’ve just been for the first screening and after a mammogram, biopsy and ultrasound I’ve been told that I have a 3.5cm lump (which feels much bigger). They have also said that although a couple of my lymph nodes are enlarged that the cancer hasn’t spread to them. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

did you get a breast cancer diagnosis? What they mean is the lymph nodes look clear , if you have a operation they will check the lymph nodes and send them off to the lab to make sure it’s a deeper check rather than a scan after your operation you will get a clearer picture and no for sure if there’s anything in lymph nodes

    good luck love Lara xx

  • Thank you Lara. I’ve been told it’s definitely cancer but I am waiting to find out what type of breast cancer it is. I’m not too worried about the lump but feel more concerned that it could have spread.

let’s hope it’s not spread m sure it will be ok and you have caught it early this is always a fear until you get the full results but just remember you got it now and it be gone soon xx

  • Hi Aggi,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you've already been told that this is cancer, but glad to hear that there is no sign of spread to the lymph nodes. If there is no spread to the first few lymph nodes, it shouldn't have spread anywhere else. As Laraj says, they will do a deeper test at the time of your surgery, to ensure that this is definitely the case. Have you been told when you will get your biopsy results back yet?

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer within a year of each other and treatment was very straightforward and "doable". That was 14 years ago now and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. This is just a bump in the road and you'll soon be over the other side.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
