Hello,
My dad, who is 87, recently had a positve FIT test and has lost some weight over the last few months. He was quickly referred, sometime in early September to a consultant. I don't live nearby, so some details are uncertain because I rely on my dad telling me dates as such, which he tends to forget. Anyway, he saw a consultant on the 19th September, who ordered an abdominal/pelvic CT scan. His bloods, aparently, were OK. He had a colonoscopy about 6 and half years ago, which showed diverticular disease and radiation damage from treatment for prostate cancer (now in remission). No polyps were seen.
He had the scan on the 3rd October. On the 13th October he got two letters. One saying they'd found a possible lesion in his bowel and he may need further tests. It said he would receive a date to dicuss the results and assess his fitness for further endoscopic investigations. That was supposed to happen today, the 3rd November. It was cancelled because of someone calling in sick and is now on the 24th November. So the agony of not knowing what's going on continues. I'm worrying more than he is. Would they be prepared to take so long if this was serious? The initial referral and CT scan were done pretty quickly. But it's now over eight weeks since his intial referral and they haven't diagnosed anything. And now we have a further three weeks to wait just to discuss the next steps.
