Ovarian mass - scared

I had an ultrasound a week ago where they found a 10cm complex cyst on my right ovary - fluid filled, few septation, no vascularity or solid area.

i have been referred to gynaecologist in 2ww. I had lots of reassurance from nurses that my risk of OC is very low, ca125 showed level of 22 which is within normal range.

Called the medical secretary, very anxiously asking about an appointment which I found has been made for me on 22nd November (soonest they could get me in which is just over 3 weeks from referral) and told to call the nurse support line. Nurse told me on the phone that all she could see was that it is described as a concerning large mass and couldn’t see anything else.

I am anxious waiting for this appointment I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. I’m only 31 and have a 2 year old.

  • Hello Beforethesun,

I am so sorry that they have found a 10cm complex cyst on your right ovary. It's bound to be a worrying time for you but it's good that they are being thorough and have referred you to see the gynaecologist. It is incredibly reassuring though that the nurses have told you that your risk of ovarian cancer is very low and your CA125 levels are within the normal range. 22nd of November is very soon now and even though you were told it was "a concerning large mass" and this will have made you understandably worried, they will I am sure have treatment options to offer you to deal with this complex cyst.

This is a very anxious time for you as you are waiting without knowing exactly what to expect and this wait and uncertainty can be the hardest thing and it is not uncommon for it to affect your sleep or appetite. Hopefully you will feel better in a few days when you have had your appointment but if this anxiety persists, don't hesitate to talk to your GP about it. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news. It's a good idea too to stay well away from the temptation of looking things up online as this will only bring up the worst and least likely possibilities and will make you feel even more worried.

Other members of our forum will have been in a similar situation before and been told they had a concerning mass on their ovary and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
