Low Lymphocytes and Breast Lump

I am currently awaiting an appointment for a one-stop Breast Clinic, I received a letter through saying the appointment is for the 'Breast Surgery Clinic' which worries me when I have not been diagnosed yet. I found a lump in the upper quadrant of my left breast a couple of months ago. I check myself regularly due to my family history. My Mammogram was clear last year however I also have noticed a swollen lymph node above my collarbone which the GP has also confirmed.

I have experienced a dull burning pain in my left breast near the nipple (inner quadrant) for a few months which I have put down to hormones (early 40s) and my latest blood tests show my lymphocytes level is low. Has anyone received a low lymphocyte count just before being diagnosed with Breast Cancer or just after diagnosis? I am really worried waiting for my appointment.

  • Hello KB18

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently waiting for an appointment at the breast clinic. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It's good to hear that you've already had your appointment letter. Hopefully you don't have to wait too long to see the team. Breast clinics are often called breast surgery clinics so try not to worry about the wording of this.

We know that for many people, waiting for appointments and tests can be a worrying time. It can sometimes help to chat things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it beneficial to talk with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch KB18 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
