Pre diagnosis but symptomatic

Hi all. Long story short I had an endometrial ablation 9 years ago due to heavy periods. So no periods since then. I’m now 54. In august I had loose bowel issues that lasted 4 weeks. All tests came back negative. Then on 13/10 prior to one week all inclusive holiday, I started having vaginal bleeding. This lasted for my entire trip. On return on 23/10 I saw Gp who sent me for fast tract gynae appt. The appointment is next week. I’m a nurse and all I can think about is that this is not looking good, with a poor prognosis. I think the worst and hope for the best. But really, how can this be anything else? I wish the appointment was tomorrow. The waiting and uncertainty is awful. Has anyone been through anything similar?

  • If you are post menopausal then any bleeding will be fast tracked, however there are many reasons for bleeding aside from cancer…mine was polyps in both cases which were causing the bleeding, they are usually not cancerous but one of mine (from the second lot of postmenopausal bleeding) had complex atypical hyperplasia, or precancerous cells…I had a hysterectomy last month as complex atypical hyperplasia can still turn out to be cancer once they have carried out the biopsies after hysterectomy..mine all came back goo, no cancer and not even any hyperplasia, so it was probably contained in just the one polyp..

A thin womb lining can also cause bleeding, as can fibroids.

I suspect they will give you an ultrasound and depending on what that shows it could then be a biopsy of womb lining with a hysteroscopy which is a small camera so they can have a good look around.

Hopefully they will find a reason and it won’t be anything nasty x

  • Thank you for the reply. All great information. My concern is that I have had an endometrial ablation 9 years ago, so most of my uterine lining has been removed. This is why I’m concerned. I’m currently on day 14 of light, bright red pv bleeding.  This is after 9 years of no bleeding at sll

  • Ah I see, in that case I’m not sure but they will see you promptly and hopefully there won’t be anything sinister occurring x
