Can't stop crying

Breast clinic appointment last Friday: 2x mammograms, ultrasound, 6x biopsies. Mammograms found nothing. I insisted and ultrasound found 2x 1cm lumps. I was told they are 95% sure it is breast cancer but I have to wait 2 weeks for results! I can't stop crying and my mind keeps catastrophising. I amnot sure they should have told me without being 100% as I can't do anything until they know. I am in despair.

  • Hi TCP1903,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry that you find yourself in this unenviable situation. Mammograms can occasionally miss some types of cancer, so I am glad to hear that you insisted on the ultrasound. Don't worry about crying so much - releasing those tears is a great way of reducing stress. This is possibly the most worrying time of a cancer journey. At this stage, we all give rein to our over-active imaginations and this can take us to some very dark places. Fortunately, this is seldom as bleak as it seems. Irrespective of the outcome, you will feel better once you know exactly what you are dealing with.

Are you aware that not all lumps are cancerous? Many turn out to be benign cysts or due to fibrous or hormonal changes. In fact, 80% of all the people who attend the breast clinic, don't get a cancer diagnosis. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and on both occasions, I was told at my first appointments, that they were likely cancer. This gives us a little more time to come to terms with a possible cancer diagnosis, rather than facing it head on, when we attend for our results. Have you got an appointment date for your results, or did they say how long they might be?

I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • They didn't give me an appointment date. They just said '2 weeks'.

Try not to panic, it went smooth for me and lots of ladies here not many horror stories xx

  • Hi Tracey,

I'm sorry to hear that today was a bad day for you. You don't want to listen to horror stories at the moment. For every one horror story there are even more positive stories of people aceing this. I have had 2 bouts within a year of each other and I am still here to tell the tale - and living life to the full. Once you start talking about this to friends and family, you'll be surprised by how many people have been touched by breast cancer.

Here's hoping that tomorrow is a better day for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Lara and Jolamine,

    Thank you.

    Xxx

  • Hi,

Had a letter from Breast Clinic which tells me (almost) what they said to me a week ago. 'Almost' because they only say 'could be cancer' not '95% sure' like they said at the clinic. If they had said 'could be' as it says in the letter, I possibly wouldn't have fallen as deep down the black hole. Of course it 'could' be, I wouldn't have had the test if it couldn't be.

    Frustrating.

Thank you for all your support. Xxxx

when is your results appointment lovely and how are you feeling? X

  • I don't have an appointment yet - should have contact from them by this coming Friday as it will have been 2 weeks by then.

Roller coastering all over the place, like you said, Lara. Yesterday I convinced myself I was fine and today I am the opposite.

Keeping myself busy with books and stuff though. Hard on my fella, he tries to keep positive and keep my spirits up.

    Xx

  • Hi Tracey,

I'm so sorry to hear that today wasn't so good. Unfortunately, this yo-yoing of emotions goes with the territory. I sincerely hope that your results come back soon, as you'll feel better once you know for certain.

    Here's hoping for good news.

    With kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
