I am glad to hear that you have already made an appointment to get this lump investigated. Is this with your GP or the Breast Clinic? I have a strong history of cancer in the family too and know just how worrying it is when you are waiting to be seen. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be benign cysts, fibroadenoma or due to hormonal changes. It is also a fact that 80% of all people referred to the breast clinic do not have cancer. It is unusual to have breast pain associated with cancer. It is also unusual to have cancer at your age, although sadly, not impossible. These are all positive facts, so there is still a strong chance that this is nothing to worry about.

I am glad to see that you do not have long to wait for your appointment and I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

Hi thank you for your response.

First appointment was with the GP who agreed the lump was very much there and quite some size so made a referral to the breast clinic for it to be investigated. The wait for the appointment is both torture and also an anxious time due to not knowing what to expect. Im really hoping it isnt cancer but im trying to stay positive and if it is, theres lots of treatments out there.

HI Clark,

Most of us would agree that the wait to be seen is the hardest part of a cancer journey. I lost my mum to secondary cancer and  have since had 2 bouts myself. You are right about the number of new treatments that are available now. There was just no comparison between the experience which mum and I had. There have also been great strides made in diagnosis and after care. My first diagnosis was 14 years ago and I still live life to the full.

I shall be thinking of you on 27th and hope that nothing untoward is found.
