High PSA - just after some reassurance

Hi all,

My husband who is 61 has just had a PSA reading of 15. Last year he had readings of 3.9, 6.0 and 4.9 (January). He had a DRE back then and it was fine. He has difficultly passing urine often but no other symptoms. My feeling is that it’s probably enlarged prostate or something like that but of course we are panicking about cancer. He has an appointment with the GP on Monday to discuss. I know we can’t know for sure at this stage or be diagnosed without scans etc, but it would be useful to hear some sensible (not freaking out like I am right now and endlessly googling!) perspectives and likely things we should expect the GP to do next, and questions we should ask.

We have 1 year old twins so I think my already existent anxiety is particularly spiking. He is more level headed than me but I can tell he’s also worried.

Any advice/perspectives very welcome.

thank you so much x

  • Hi VictoriaBD,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry you haven't received a reply up to now - I see that your appointment is today. Write down any questions you have and take these with you, and then make notes of any answers or information so you don't forget anything. Be sure to ask about any next steps so that you understand what to expect in terms of getting the information you need.

I hope it all goes OK.

    Wishing you all the best,
