Constantly worried!

Hey all,

Feel guilty for writing here as no diagnosis, but I have gone down the rabbit hole in terms of worry and constantly checking google for those with similar symptoms to mine, which has made things worse

A little background:

I have had a lump under my chin for around 7 months. I posted on here around that time that I went and the GP dismissed it as they couldn’t feel it. I did bring it up a month later to a different GP when I had an appointment for something else and they said it was probably just a lymph node as I had recurrent sinus infections.

Anyway, 7 months later and it’s still there. I have no other symptoms and I relaxed about it, however I do check it’s still there a few times a month. It hasn’t grown. I decided to book another GP appointment to get it checked and this time they’ve referred me for an ultrasound but Im still waiting for a date. The doctor didn’t seem too concerned and said they think it’s my Sublingual gland that’s swollen. The lump is directly under my chin, not under my jaw line and can grab it with two fingers, it feels like a bean around 1cm wide. I’m not sure if it’s can be moved or if I’m just moving skin around it.

I went into the appointment not worried and even came away from it pretty calm, however I do suffer with anxiety, especially health anxiety, and I’ve been slowly getting worse and panicking more that they will find something. And now I’m at the point I believe I have cancer in the salivary gland.

I hope this post doesn’t upset anyone who is actually going through it, I don’t mean to upset anyone but I just needed somewhere to vent my worries

  • Hi Buckbeak,

You've done the right thing in seeing the GP, and it's good to hear you have a referral in place now. This will mean you get the answers you need before too long, and hopefully this will give you some peace of mind.

It's never easy waiting for information and appointments - try to keep busy and focus on other things while you wait, to help keep your mind off the worries.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
