Painful, swollen armpit

My left armpit looks and feels swollen and is painful although I can't feel any lumps. When my arms are by my side it feels "scratchy".  At the start of the year I had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and I felt the armpit was a bit swollen then too, although that went away. The neck glands were examined with a scope and ultrasound at hospital in June and were deemed as reactive. I have a deviated septum and have sinusitis practically all the time so I think that causes the neck gland swelling. I had a recent chest x-ray for something else and that was clear. My mammogram isn't due until next year.

Has anyone else experienced a swollen armpit with pain? I'm wondering if it's possibly connected to the lymph node swelling in my neck as it's the same side. I'm not looking for anyone to diagnose me, just wondering if anyone's experienced similar.

Thank you for reading.

  • Hi L

    Thank you so much..

No they didn't give any explanations about my symptoms.I had an x-ray in sept which picked up a density in my armpit so I think they wanted to double check that..Strangely the symptoms I was having..the scratchy arm etc..have subsided in the last few days..The swelling is also not apparent..like a raised bump.

I think they go by mammogram which is the main test.Thats what the consultant said.So any concerns can be picked up that way..

How are your symptoms now?are they still noticeable?

Please update me with regards to your appointment on Thursday..

    Any questions do reach out..

    Take care x

  • Hi Angie (and anyone else with similar)

I had my appointment at the breast clinic today. I was so scared before I went that I felt like I couldn't even swallow.

I had a breast examination and the doctor told me that nothing was jumping out at her but sent me for a mammogram to double check. The mammogram was clear and her words were "perfect examination and perfect mammogram". No explanation for the symptoms I've been experiencing other than it could be hormone related.

I'm feeling so relieved and grateful tonight and if I've learned anything it's that you need to face your fears and get checked out. Oh, and stay away from Google!

    L xx

  • Hi Louby

Aaah that is great news!!..thank you for updating me on here..I'm so happy to hear that all went well at the clinic today.

Totally relate to how you were feeling..it is pretty scary and very overwhelming. I was in tears when I got my results.the relief was like no other. You were amazing and got through it.it's better to have a peace of mind at the end of the day..anything that feels different to the norm has got to be checked.

Yes I did the Google thing as well and it's a nightmare.Iv learnt my lesson too.

Take it easy and relax now.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    Take care
