Colonoscopy results

Hi

I had a colonoscopy yesterday. Despite feeling very anxious about it (I only found out 3 days before that I had an appointment) the procedure itself wasn't as bad as I had imagined and the doctors and nurses were very reassuring.

I am however worried about what they found and I'm wondering if anyone else have had similar findings. Im going out of my mind with worry especially as the consultant said its unusual of someone my age to have so many polyps - im 39.

They removed 4 serated looking polyps described as flat elevated sizing from 8mm - 12mm. A few smaller polyps remain and we discussed another appointment in 6 months using colonoscopy dye spray depending on the results of the histopathology report.

Ive been suffering with daily diorreah since December last year and despite several visits to the doctor an appotment for the gastro clinic was made for February next year. This week I received an appoitment with a colonoscopy consultant for 11th December which prompted the colonoscopy appointment yesterday as he wanted one doing before the appointment.

  • Hello jen1984j,

There's no way of understanding your symptoms until further investigation is done, but you did the right thing by going to the doctor.

When you’re worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can advise you is a doctor. I hope the appointment with the consultant goes ok in December. It might help to write any questions you have and take them with to make sure you get the best out of this appointment. These tips here could be useful to you, as they're helpful whether you're waiting for an appointment or for results.

    Best wishes,
