Biopsy results

Hello. I am new here. Little back story. I had a lump grow on my back starting last year. I had just had spinal fusion surgery so I was told it was scar tissue as it was the size of a pea. It didn't grow much after that. But 4 months later in the space of a few weeks it had grown bigger than my hand. Again I was under the impression its was scar tissue. Until I realised I couldn't sit straight. I was having pain in my hip and in my nerves on that side so I went to the GP. He put me down the cancer pathway. Now since then it's been one big mess. Messed about for months. Ultrasound 2 MRI and none could determine exactly what it is so I was sent for a biopsy 3 weeks ago. The fluid showed no infection. But I now have an appointment to see a specialist next week regarding my tumor biopsy results. I am scared. I am hoping its a lipoma or a organising hematoma. But can it take this long to get bad news? The department I am going too is very busy and I am also on a short list just incase an earlier appointment becomes available. Sorry for the ramble I am just confused and worried.

  • Hello EmaJx,

Poor you - that lump did grow a lot if it ended up bigger than your hand! You did well to go to the GP especially with all these other symptoms you've been getting. Being put down the cancer pathway can make you feel really anxious and it sounds like you've had such a stressful time of it for months and it must be exhausting for you.

Hopefully by next week you will have some definite answers when you get your biopsy results. It won't be long now until you finally get some answers and it's good you are also on a shortlist in case an earlier appointment becomes available. It's normal to be confused and worried during this period of uncertainty but try not to anticipate the worst though as there are so many other things it could be other than cancer. If you can, stay well away from the temptation of looking things up on Google as this will only make you feel worse and give you no accurate answers. There is helpful advice on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been through something similar and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Keeping everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern and you get clarity soon.

    Best wishes,
