Positive FIT test aged 38

I’ve been having mild discomfort in my rectum area for a couple of weeks, although I do occasionally get sharp pains in my rectum but these usually go after relaxing my muscles (I have pelvic floor issues).

a couple of weeks ago I think I had Covid and I got stomach pains (not bowel, in my stomach area below my ribs), so sent off for a FIT test online. Today it’s come back positive at 74.

im absolutely terrified, can anyone reassure me that a level of 74 can be not cancer? im only 38 with two young children so am in bits.

  • hello MJ85

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns and that the FIT test you completed has come back with a positive result. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It's important to remember that there are lots of reasons that people can have a positive FIT test result. You don't mention in your post if you've seen your GP about your symptoms. If you've yet to do this then do make an appointment to discuss your concerns as they will be best placed to offer you some reassurance and arrange any appropriate treatment or tests.

I hope that things improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
