Worried it’s bowel cancer

Hi, i’m so worried i have bowel cancer i’m scaring myself to death. i’m a 50 year old women i’ve had noticeable intermittent constipation and lower right sided pain since last year , but recently it’s got worst. i put it down to the pri menapause and stress.

In feb, i had a FIT test, blood tests and abdominal US. All come back clear. However the pain and constipation annd now stomach gurgling was still happening. So all the FIT and bloods were redone in september.  I also had an incident of blood in my poo, but i think that’s from straining. These tests again come back clear.  i was given laxatives to help. I’m now going more regularly however the right sided lower pain is still there.

m the GP is referring me to a gastroenterologist . He has arranged for a CT Colonoscopy this week.

i keep holding on to the hope that being i’ve had two FITs  done months apart and both were clear that it would have picked something up if there was something wrong.

on a side not i had an MRI for right sided pain 10 years and was told i was constipated i had no idea i was.

i read that Colon cancer can strike on the right with no bleeding and i now can’t unread that.

i’m dreading the CT and receiving the results and i’m getting myself in a right state over it.

  • Hi bendybirdclaire,

I can understand your concerns and I know the waiting and uncertainty is never easy. Although the upcoming appointment may be worrying, it's good in terms of not being too much longer to wait and also meaning you should get some answers before too long.

If you have any questions, be sure to ask these at the appointment. Following that, hopefully you'll be able to get the results soon. While you wait, try to focus on other things and keep busy as much as possible, to help distract from the worries. I know this can be easier said than done.

I hope you hear more soon. Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
