Breast clinic referral waiting times

Hi,

I am writing it as starting to get very stressed over the lump I found in my breast, it’s hard and doesn’t move. I seen a GP and got urgent rreferral to breast clinic however I was told that due to my age (22) the urgency might be downgraded. I also called the clinic today and was told that all refferals are minimum 10 weeks wait. I also have some nipple and skin changes and if it wasn’t enough I believe to have developed another smaller lump in my other breast. I am starting to consider doing ultrasound privately however with the costs it causing me a lot of hard time deciding what to do.

  • Oh no that’s so hard for you but you have age on your side remember! Have you spoken to your GP about how worried you are and how it’s affecting you? x

  • No, to be honest it didn’t hit me what possibilities are until the evening . Spent the whole night on Google . Never thought they would even care actually.
but thank you I might do that now xx

  • Hi there,

so sorry to hear your going through this but I’m also going through something similar I’m 21 myself and I was referred on a cancer pathway the doctor worded it as ‘suspected’ breast cancer and my appointment is today which it’s been exactly 2 weeks since I saw the GP. I do have a family history of breast cancer and my lump has grown in size so I don’t know if this has contributed to me getting an appointment quicker but if you are concerned I would suggest speaking to the GP again especially considering how much it is worrying you.

Most lumps in young women tend to be something benign but it is always worth getting it checked.

I hope everything goes well for you xx
