Multiple lumps

Hello, I’m a 30 year old woman and I have found a few different lumps in my left breast. My gp has referred me to the Brest clinic but now I can’t stop worrying, I’m constantly feeling my breast. Is it Normal to have more than 1 lump? I’m absolutely terrified! I have 2 small children, one who is autistic and I am his whole entire world! I can’t stop thinking the worst I’m constantly crying it’s horrific

  • Sorry you are having this worry a good friend of mine had the exact situation she has a family history of breast cancer however her check up confirmed she just had fatty lumps in her one breast.

I understand we all jump to the worse situation but take each day as it comes and try not to worry until you have factual results I’m current going through a similar thing with lumps in my neck and worrying myself sick but now seeing that stressing won’t change a thing.

wishing you all the best x

  • Hi there,

sorry to hear you are going through this, I had my appointment at the breast clinic today and was told I have a fibroadenoma and the specialist told me it’s common to have multiple lumps in your breasts. Breast cancer is unlikely to occur in young people but not impossible so it’s good you're having your lumps checked. A lot of breast lumps in younger women tend to be cysts or fibroadenomas and I believe the statistic is that 80% of breast lumps turn out to be benign.

    Wishing you the best! xx

  • Just read my referral letter and it states she could feel a lump that was 2cm in diameter and she could feel a lymph node on palpitation. I’m even more worried now!

  • Hi there , whilst it is always better to get lumps checked , younger ladies often have breast lumps that are related to their cycle , they come and go and are harmless cysts , so fingers crossed this is the case . Xx

  • Hi there Steph

When I went to my GP she told me my lump was around 4cm but when I had my ultrasound at the breast clinic they confirmed it was only 1.7cm so just goes to show that GPs aren’t experts when it comes to breast health.

Breast lumps and changes in lymph nodes can be due to the menstrual cycle they don’t always result in a cancer diagnosis and as you are quite young is it more likely to be something less sinister. Lumps and lymph node changes in younger women could be due to fibroenenomas, cysts or fibrocystic breast changes and all of these benign conditions can be influenced by the menstrual cycle.

I know it’s easier said than done but please try not to worry, you won’t know anything until you’ve been to clinic and if it makes you feel any better I think it is about 8 out of 10 people who visit breast clinic don’t receive a diagnosis of breast cancer, plus you have age on your side. I hope everything goes well for you at clinic and you receive a positive result xx

  • Hello!
I’ve got myself so worked up I’ve actually booked in with a private hospital because my doctors took 2 days to send off my referral and they only received it yday so I’m looking at another 2 weeks of waiting and I can’t wait that long! Thank you for all your words of support everyone though! X
