Hi!
I first wanted to provide some history, just in case it may be relevant.
When I was 6, I underwent a total thyroidectomy as I had thyroid cancer. I have no idea what type it was and no one else seems to know either. Unfortunately, my parents were the ones who were aware and they have passed since.
I am now 26, and in 2018, I ended up contracting Glandular Fever, which required hospitalisation as my liver had begun to fail. I was given an ultrasound while I was there and was informed that there was something on the scan that they didn't think should have been there, given my history. I was biopsied, but it was inconclusive. Sadly, it was never followed up upon.
In August of this year, I noticed while moisturising that I had several lumps in my neck. I monitored them for a while and they seemed only to grow. I visited my GP, who was concerned not only about that, but also that I had some swelling in the front of my neck, where my thyroid would have been, that I hadn't noticed. I can only assume that this was the tiny mass seen in 2018, and it has slowly grown. She sent a referral the the ultrasound department. I wasn't yet on the pathway.
I attended the GP again after two weeks because of some chest pains and a new lump on the side of my neck, about an inch from my collarbone. She said she couldn't expedite the scan, but sent me to A&E. I was turned away and told the growths in my neck were probably just fat and nothing concerning, which made me lose confidence in self-advocacy.
Fast forward to September 11th, when I finally got an ultrasound. This scan revealed that the lump near the collarbone was suspicious, with an irregular outline and loss of the hilum, and that the growth near my thyroid bed was unusual, measuring 4cm in length. There are two other growths on the left as well that I can't feel. She also noticed an abnormal lymph node in my axilla and a borderline lymph node in my groin.
I received the dreaded call from my GP that my results were suspicious and I required an urgent referral to the ENT, on the two week pathway. That appointment is tomorrow, and I am quite frightened.
Anyone else been through similar, or have any advice on what I should expect?
This is the second cancer referral I have received in the last 3 months, the first being after the tragic loss of a baby in July, during which I was hospitalised and the consultant said my cervix looked concerning, explicitly mentioned cervical cancer as a possibility and then told me I have to wait 3 months for that to be investigated, which falls at the end of this month.
I feel so angry at the world and so frightened. Any advice would be amazing.
Thank you!
