Neck lump

Hi,

On a bit of a journey at the moment with several twists and turns freaking me out!

Following a suspected infection (which wasn't solved with antibiotics) I was left with a small lump behind my jawbone beneath my ear - I was sent for an ultrasound which I arranged privately, a small mass was observed.

A week later I was told they had observed a tumor (GPs words) and would need referring - getting a private consultant was proving impossible, so was advised to go via NHS pathway and was seen quickly and referred for a followup ultrasound and FN biopsy.

2 weeks later I attended the appointment, but was given a cursory sweep over with the probe before being told 'we dont biopsy them' its too small - I encouraged him to look again, and indeed did spot something deeper which he was also unable to biopsy and required an MRI. (two areas to be concerned of I now wonder>?)

after not hearing about an appointment I was told that the MRI referral had been sent back as it hadn't been signed by the consultant - a further week passed, and upon chasing up I discovered it had been requested on an 18 week wait, rather than the 2WW it needed to be.

Finally had the appointment yesterday and now waiting to hear back - hoping it won't be long

  • Hi YorksChef,

Poor you, you've certainly been through many twists and turns and you did well to chase up that referral even though you discovered you were placed on an 18 week wait. I am glad you've finally had your MRI and you are now waiting to hear back. It shouldn't be too long now to get your results as our information page on the MRI specifies that you should get your results within 1 to 2 weeks.

I hope that you will hear from the experiences of other members of our community who have been through something similar and that they will be along shortly and share their story with you.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that you get your results in the next few days and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. Keep us updated on what you find out if you get a moment!

    Best wishes,
