Bladder cancer

Good morning.

I have been peeing blood on and off for a few months now but put it down to a possible kidney stone on my right hand side as I have had a few kidney stones in the past and the pain was the same as before i.e a dull aching pain in my kidney and round the front which can sometimes be disabilitating.

I had a CT scan and it came back as no kidney stone found.

Also I got told a few years ago that I have a Gallstone, and I can feel it under the right hand side of my ribs mostly when I sit down.

I went to the GP and he has now done an urgent referral to the urologist.

I have never smoked, but after the GP sending me for an urgent referral and after reading all the things on line it looks like it is 100% bladder cancer.

At the moment I do have a kidney stone on my left Kidney which has now moved down to the lower part on the tube.

My question is this, is it always bladder cancer if there is blood in urine ?

Thank you you.

Simon.

  • Hi Simon , you can have blood in your urine for a number of reasons other than cancer , but it is wise to get it checked on the two week referral pathway. You can have blood in your urine due to kidney stones, infection or sometimes due to an enlarged prostate . You don’t give your age , but over 40 the prostate grows , it has a very god blood supply and can bleed easily . A  cystoscopy is a small tube ( camera) that goes into your water pipe into the bladder . It takes 2-3 minutes . The consultant wil have a look and advise you from there . I hope all is ok

  • Good morning.

    I am 62 this month.

As per my earlier post, I thought it was due to a kidney stone in my right side as the symptoms were exactly the same as the symptoms I have had before for kidney stones, as I have had a few.

I definitely have one in my left Kidney at the moment, and I am waiting for this one to be operated on at the hospital.

But the left one is not causing me any pain / trouble at the moment.

I had the camera about 20 years ago for my bladder and I must admit I was I terrible pain peeing after it.

    Thank you.

    Simon.

  • Yes it’s not the most pleasant thing , but drink plenty of water afterwards and you should be fine
