Slight indent in breast - so worried

Hiya, I know there are lots of posts like this but my head is all over the place. About 4 weeks ago I noticed a small dimple in my right breast, it doesn't look as though the skin is 'pulling' but like the skin is just flat and you can't feel it If you run your finger over it,  it's smaller than a little finger nail. I've recently lost 5 stone and none of my bras are fitting properly so I left it 2 weeks to see if it sorted itself out, it didn't and now I'm in a right state, I can't feel any distinct lumps but have dug around so much that I can feel lots of bumpiness and not sure if this is related. I have an appt with the GP tomorrow and expecting a referral but I can't concentrate on anything and am crying almost constantly, it's exhausting and always jump to the very worst case scenario. I'm not sure what I'm looking to achieve from this post but just being able to vent and write it down has already helped.

  • Hello Shjshj,

I am so sorry to hear you have been so worried about this slight indent on your breast. You did well to make an appointment with your GP to get it looked at. How did your appointment go yesterday? Has your GP referred you to the breast clinic? I hope you feel a little bit better now that you have seen your doctor and that you are less anxious. It's normal to be jumping to the worst case scenario - many of us tend to do it but it's worth bearing in mind that a lot of referrals to the breast clinic do not lead to a breast cancer diagnosis. Avoid the temptation to look things up on Google as this will only make you worry more and bring up the worst possible - and least likely - cases. Breast Cancer Now has useful information on what to expect from a breast clinic appointment which I hope you will find helpful.

I hope that it all turns out to be nothing of concern and that you will hear from other members on the forum who have been through a similar experience before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you so much for your response, I went to the GP and had a GP and a newly qualified physician they both looked and had a good feel and had no concerns at all, the GP is going to phone me Tuesday morning and if I'm still feeling anxious about it said she will refer me but she really doesn't feel that there's any need to and she's sure it's nothing that warrants a referral. I'm feeling alot better but still having passing moments of anxiety so I'm not sure what decision I'll  make when I speak to her on Tuesday, as much as It would be reassuring I'm not sure I can put myself through the wait for an appt if the GP is really not worried. So I will talk it through with her.

  • That's excellent news! You seem to have a great GP - it's so nice of her to ring you again on Tuesday morning to see how you are feeling about it all. I hope the phone call goes well on Tuesday and you make the decision that is best for you. You're right to talk it through with her  - her guidance will be really useful there.
