possible melanoma

Good morning.

It looks and sounds like i have a Melanoma.

It is / was in the top half near enough round the back of my inner thigh on the left hand side, but doing the math's i might of had it for approx 3 to 5 years, i don't know how long as i didn't notice it with the part of the thigh i had it in.

2 of my GP`s said it was nothing to worry about and when i went back for a 3rd time as it had grown outwards with a crust on it, my doctor said it looked like a Seborrheic Keratosis but still sent me for an urgent referral.

The  dermatologist said she was concerned, but it could still be a funny wart, but i could tell by her face it was definitely melanoma.

I had the biopsy that day and was told it would be about 2 weeks before the results, those results were due on the 26th September, so i called up and they said not results back as yet and it can take up to 4 to 6 weeks , which i read as it is definitely Melanoma and with me having it for god knows how long i don't see a good outcome at all.

I did see another post on here saying about tingling sensation, i do have that in the outer side of my thigh, but got diagnosed with arthritis a few years ago in my hips and i could not lie down on a bed and sitting down was really painful so i had to lie on the solid floor, the doctors again a few years ago the tingling was because of my arthritis, but i don't know what to believe now.

Also i have tingling / numbness in both sets of toes, but i do have type 2 diabetes, so not sure if it could be that.

Looking at all the things i have read on here and on line, it does not look good at all.

My appetite is all over the show, my sleep is all over the show, it is on my mind all the time, i have become so down with the whole thing.

Thank you.

Simon

  • Hi Simon, please see my reply to your earlier post. With regard to the tingling/numbness - it's highly unlikely it's connected to your mole. It's not usually a recognised symptom of melanoma so I think it's more likely to be connected to your diabetes.

  • Hi Angie.

Yes i have just looked at your earlier post that calmed me down a tad.

So sorry Angie, i am on such a high at the moment, i know i am not the only one at all, but i just feel like crying with the emotions i am going through at the moment.

i did have a quick chat with my wife last night and she just keeps saying calm down, as anybody knows is easier said than done.

Its just amazing the change in me, from coming off a lovely not a care in the world family holiday in Lanzarote.

We came back on the 9th September, and on the 12th October my world fell apart even just with the dermatologist saying she was concerned i am now just  a completely different person.

the thought of having t leave my family just fills me dread as any normal family man or woman would agree.

I did read on a post here that the tingling happens in the later stages of Melanoma, which again made my head want to explode.

    Take care Angie.

    Thank you once again.

  • Please be assured that, if the tingling was due to melanoma, you would have had far more serious symptoms too, as advanced cancer spreads to organs and/or bones - tingling is a lesser, additional symptom. Stress can also cause weird symptoms so it's important to try and calm down whilst awaiting results.

With regard to the long wait for results - the length of wait does not reflect whether it's good or bad news. It's the same for everyone & is sadly longer now due to Covid backlogs, strikes and a huge lack of NHS dermatologists. So please don't think the length of time waiting for your results means it's bad news as that is not the case.

  • Thank you Angie.

You do calm me down a bit, but my wife always tells me to calm down, perhaps i should listen to you both.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me, it is very much appreciated.

    Thank you Angie.

    Take care.
