My experience at breast clinic

I found a lump in my breast after checking them one Sunday.

I was referred for 2 week appointment which I attended. The doctor I saw was lovely explained everything to me what was going to happen. First I will examine you and then you will go for Mammogram and if nothing is present then you will be discharged which I was hoping for. Mammogram was painful due to the staff member doing it. Had to tell her to stop hurting me and pounding my breasts like they were pieces of meat. Sat waiting hoping to be told I could go but no 2 hours later was called for Ultrasound. Got to the door to be told that the Mammogram did not show the lump so had another lot done. Different staff member doing it but same problem as before hurting me. She could not do it so the first one was called in. Same again pain. I have had Mammograms before and these were the worst ones.

Waited again and was called into Ultrasound. Took my top and bra off for 4th time. Laid on my side waiting for it to begun had to move forward thought I was going to fall off. Another doctor put gel over the area were the previous doctor had marked the lump with a X on my breast. She went over and over my breast and my armpits. Then she said I am doing a biopsy. Numbed area with some gel and then did a core biopsy first time did not feel a thing. Then second one I nearly shot into the air so painful.

The nurse was talking to me while putting pressure on my breast while another nurse got dressings ready. My daughter who went with me took photos of image on screen and also overheard doctor talking into her dictaphone saying things like lobular and cancer malignant.

Then I was told it would take 4 weeks for results. I questioned this and said your website says 10 days.

I have waited 15 days now and everyday waiting is like torture getting so anxious. Worst thing is friends saying if it was bad news then you would have heard by now. No news is good news. Does not help so I have decided that the lump is happening to someone else not me.

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had an appointment at your local breast clinic and that you're now waiting for the results of a biopsy. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious at the moment.

We know that many people across the country are experiencing delays with appointments and results at the moment. This seems to be due to backlogs, staff shortages, and strikes and we understand that for lots of people, this period of uncertainty can be particularly difficult.

It can sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to speak with one of our team of nurses whilst you're waiting for your results. I'm sure they would be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully, you will have some answers soon. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
