Ultrasound results??Confusing And Awaiting results CA125

I have recently been asked to join a study to prevent ovarian cancer, this could involve removing my tubes and or ovaries and possibly my womb also - electively to reduce my risk and be monitored.

this is because I have a change on my BRCA - a VUS
Variants of uncertain significance (VUS)

- I have had previously 2 breast lumps removed both Benign.

on Saturday (23/09) I went for a pelvic ultrasound, this is the first part of the study.

Sadly at this point something was spotted. The report states -

13 x 11 x 15mm lesion on the left ovary of mixed echogenicity with some solid areas within ? aetiology ? atypical dermoid cyst ? sinister cause.

I have yesterday had Ca-125 bloods taken and i am awaiting results.

The wording on the scan report is slightly concerning, I have had lower abdominal/ pelvic discomfort for some time but I put it down to my bad back and change in my cycles - put down to me aging and body settling after last breast surgery in March.

so with what the report says - has any one any similar findings and what have they lead on to?

any one got any basic simple version in plain English of what it means (I’ve googled it all but get more information overload)

I don’t feel im keen on the word sinister being on any letter and fear it wouldn’t be wrote lightly.

thanks in advance for any replies!

  • Hello 3Eden1

I'm sorry to hear about the recent ultrasound results that you've received and that you're now in a period of waiting for more news and some answers.

When you signed up for the study, were you given contact details for someone who you could contact if you had any concerns or questions? I'd suggest giving them a call in the first instance. Let them know how the wording of the results letter has left you feeling worried and anxious. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance whilst you're waiting for the CA125 results. Alternatively, make an appointment to talk through your concerns with your GP.

we know that for many people this period of uncertainty can be difficult. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for some answers and information about the next steps.

Keep in touch 3Eden1 and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
