Waiting for cervical and endometrial biopsies

Hi,

I’m looking for somewhere to offload my worries I think. I went to my GP a few weeks ago with irregular periods, bloody discharge between periods and general back/hip pains. She did an internal exam and found something on my cervix which she could see and referred me to the hospital via the 2 weeks referral pathway.

When I went and saw the consultant she said she would do an internal exam and if necessary do a biopsy.

She ended up taking two biopsies from my cervix and womb. She said my womb was “bulky” (I have no idea what that means) and that the legions on my cervix bled when she touched them. I’ve been told I also need a colposcopy and an ultrasound scan, and that the biopsy results could be weeks.

I am in a complete state of confusion and anxiety as I don’t really know what to expect, and I don’t think I can cope waiting weeks for biopsy results. I haven’t told anyone else, except my wife who is very much of the “don’t stress we’ll just see” opinion. I feel so very alone.
For some context I am 37yrs old and I have an 8yr old following 2 previous miscarriages.

Is it normal to wait weeks for results? Does a longer wait mean it’s bad news? I’m honestly in such a state, I cant eat or sleep and day to day life is getting harder.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

  • Welcome to the forum Em8695 although I'm sorry to hear about your situation and for the worry and confusion it has caused.

I know this must be scary but the Cancer Chat community are here for you and hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar position will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

If you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease whilst you wait.

I hope this information we have about colposcopies will be helpful as well.

We're thinking of you Em and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • I’m in exactly the same boat as you at the moment, I had an appt after irregular bleeding and bleeding after and pain during sex. I was invited to what the letter said would be an endoscopy. A polyp was found and removed to be tested and I had a punch biopsy of the cervix done too. I was also told I had a bulky cervix but that this wasn’t unusual as I have 3 children. I’ve been told the results can take 4-8 weeks and that I’ll hear by letter.

I have to switch off from it because right now there’s nothing I can do, it’s not easy but I’m focussing on work and keeping busy. I hope you’re ok and aren’t waiting too long.
