Possible womb cancer ?

Recently has a transvaginal scan which showed a 5.1 endometrial thickening after menopause. Specialist tried to do two procedures to get a biopsy but they couldn’t get through the cervix. Now have to go to hospital as an in patient. Really scared. Has anyone had similar experiences ?

  • No, I was just told womb lining was approx. 7.6mm (2019) and then approx 8.3mm (2023) both times polyps were found when I had hysteroscopies x

  • Thanks so much, feel much more positive now.

  • Just thought I’d share an update…i went to see someone yesterday because one of my hysterectomy wounds was bleeding, as I was waiting my consultant walked past and said he would see me even though he wasn’t in clinic..I have a huge haematoma which he partially drained and I’ve got a pico line in now which is draining the remainder of the blood, go back tomorrow to get it changed,

Whilst chatting he said “your histology has just come back” No cancer, not even any sign of the atypia hyperplasia which was originally found in a polyp thry removed…so all good, I was so relieved, certainly wasn’t expecting results back that quick.

Just need to fully recover from hysterectomy and broken arm now and everything will be good.

  • So pleased to hear this news but sorry to learn that you have had some bleeding. I hope you recover soon, you must be feeling very relieved. I see the gynaecologist tomorrow and think from everything I have read that I will ask for a GA for the hysteroscopy. The last two smear tests have been very uncomfortable and I have a very low pain threshold. Good luck for the future and hope you remain well.

  • I had my first lot of polyps removed under a general, I wanted them done as an outpatient but they wear in a difficult place, the second lot were done as an outpatient..I’m a wuss, honestly, thought I’d find it unbearable, my last smear was really uncomfortable (glad I won’t be needing anymore of those) but I found all the hysteroscopies fine…my husband couldn’t believe it!

I think the main downside to having a general is you usually have to wait longer for them to do it as you need a pre op assessment etc but you have to do what feels right for you.

I was back at the hospital today as the pico thingy they put on yesterday, and which lasts 7 days for most normal people, only lasted a day for me as I had so much blood in the haematoma, honestly it could only happen to me lol..let’s see how long this one lasts!

Hoping you get your appointment soon and all your results are normal when they come back x

  • Hi. I had a biopsy yesterday. My lining is measuring 8mm. I can't stand having to wait 1-2 weeks for the results. I'm half expecting it to be cancer if I'm honest. My mum had breast cancer and my auntie too. I could have definitely wrote the post myself as it's exactly my story too. Hope everyone is well xx

  • 8mm is not that thick in the grand scheme of things x hopefully you won’t have to wait too long for the results and fingers crossed they will be ok.

Honestly, I’ve spent the whole of this year worrying and waiting for scans, hysteroscopies, biopsies, results and repeat, these things can drag on and boy don’t they drag you down with them, but for all that the majority of women don’t have womb cancer xx

  • Thank you so much for your reply. Hope you're well xx
