Prostate help please - dad's PSA levels have risen, having more tests

Hi my dad has been taking tablets for psa levels as his dad passed away from prostrate cancer and always had a good level of psa. His latest shows it high so ge had a mri which shows signs of abnormal cells and was sent for a biopsy and same day said he needs a bone scan tomorrow, all without any results. Not sure if this is to rule out aggressive cancer but his letter for consultation on Friday is marked urgent.  Can it spread to your bones so quickly as his psa levels have only just gone up. As last test I think ladt year was all good...

  • Hello Clairbo

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent health problems and that he's now waiting for the results of some tests. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious ahead of his appointment this coming Friday.

Hopefully as your Dad has had both the biopsy and scan, the team will be in a good position to be able to answer some of the questions that you both undoubtedly have and advise your Dad on the best way forward.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses ahead of the appointment you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to try and offer some advice and support as well as help you/your Dad think about any questions he might want to ask on Friday.

Do let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
