Breast lump - same?

Hi,

I was referred under a 2ww referral in Jan 2022 - I have large breasts and found a lump in the upper outer quadrant of my left breast. I wasn’t sure if it had always been there so went to the clinic and advised it was nothing to worry about following an ultrasound. I can’t find the discharge letter but think it was maybe normal breast tissue, thick tissue etc.

I was in the shower yesterday and noticed a lump in the same area. I’m 90% sure it’s the same lump - but not sure if it’s grown or if im working myself up about it unnecessarily.

For context - I suffer health anxiety badly. I’ve just been under the doctor for a cyst I was convinced was skin cancer. Then I was worried another spot on my leg was melanoma. I’ve been to the doctors for a breast lump in 2016 after my first child was born, then again after my son in 2018.

I’m guessing I just need to go and ask to be referred again for my peace of mind. And then if all ok see someone for my anxiety.

Thanks for listening x

  • Hi Beckyboo85,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. We would always recommend you see your GP if you have any concerns or questions or if you've noticed any changes - or even if you just want peace of mind. Especially as it was quite a while ago that this area was examined.

It would also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions about whether you should expect it to stay the same, or what to look out for, etc.

If you feel anxiety is something you struggle with, then as you say you can also ask for support for that. A good starting point for this would be the NHS Every Mind Matters page.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
