2 referrals and 8 weeks later I've been told there will be a 10 week delay

In early July, I found a lump in my underarm and went to GP 2 weeks later. She referred me to Aberdeen and said I'd have appt in 2-3weeks. After 3 weeks and no word I called my GP who advised me that Aberdeen had written back that they weren't overly worried about my lump(having not seen it) and to return to GP on 17th Aug. I returned and seen a different GP who referred me again as I now have a large rash over my breast... Lump has moved and I can't feel it any longer, is it hiding or has it dissipated? Another 3 weeks pass with no word and I call GP for update to be told Aberdeen have said there's a 10 week delay on appts. I'm hoping it's nothing to worry about as Aberdeen obviously not concerned but very aware they haven't seen me, 2 GP's have referred me after seeing me and examining me and stating a suspected cancer... Why do I have to wait so long, by the time I'm seen it'll be about 18 weeks since I felt the lump, is this a normal wait time?

  • Aw Angel I know how you feel! I was so stressed about it all especially as I had gone through this twice last year but did not feel reassured and had even further nipple retraction and constant pain. What are your symptoms? x

  • I went to the doctors for a lump in my armpit that was painful, I'm on hrt so thought it would be why. She looked and said its inflammation and asked to check my breast whilst there and she found a hard mass, I didn't even know it was there. She has told me to stop the hrt immediately and will refer me urgently as its very concerning mass. Told me I will be seen within 2 weeks....

  • Angel please don’t try and Google your symptoms. I know how hard it is not to, believe me, but I had a really hard area in my breast that I had no knowledge of being there despite thinking I was regularly checking myself thoroughly. It turned out to be hundreds of tiny cysts described as being like bubble wrap and like you I was on HRT and had been for years. The consultant I saw yesterday told me that pain is almost always a good sign and it’s very unusual to have pain with something sinister! Your GP can’t really say it’s inflammation without a mammogram, scan etc..but has done the right thing referring you immediately. Try and hold on to that for now. It must be so difficult stopping HRT immediately too but remember to discuss this at your clinic appointment. Please let us know how you get on and I hope you hear quickly about your appointment. x

  • The painful lump has gone after taking the tablets, this was on the left side. The hard lump is on the right side, not painful at all
