2 referrals and 8 weeks later I've been told there will be a 10 week delay

In early July, I found a lump in my underarm and went to GP 2 weeks later. She referred me to Aberdeen and said I'd have appt in 2-3weeks. After 3 weeks and no word I called my GP who advised me that Aberdeen had written back that they weren't overly worried about my lump(having not seen it) and to return to GP on 17th Aug. I returned and seen a different GP who referred me again as I now have a large rash over my breast... Lump has moved and I can't feel it any longer, is it hiding or has it dissipated? Another 3 weeks pass with no word and I call GP for update to be told Aberdeen have said there's a 10 week delay on appts. I'm hoping it's nothing to worry about as Aberdeen obviously not concerned but very aware they haven't seen me, 2 GP's have referred me after seeing me and examining me and stating a suspected cancer... Why do I have to wait so long, by the time I'm seen it'll be about 18 weeks since I felt the lump, is this a normal wait time?

  • This won't help but I have also been told the same thing. I phoned today to check I was on list after an urgent referral from my GP (2 weeks ago) and it is 10 week wait. I feel more anxious now knowing I have to wait 10 weeks to have my lump and thickening checked. It's below left armpit in the upper quadrant of my breast. When I went 2 years ago it was only 2-3 weeks to wait for an urgent referral. I am in Aberdeen as well xx

  • I’m also the same and been waiting since referral made by my GP on 21st July! Called hospital twice and been told clinics are busy and I’ve been triaged as routine. I also gave thickening in my breast and nipple changes however as I had two mammograms last year they don’t consider me urgent. I’m worried sick. I’m in Scotland too. Hope we hear something soon x

  • What's going on in Scotland!! Really hope u get seen soon and have a good outcome. I had a lump first in july and was referred by my gp but the hospital relayed back to them they weren't 'overly worried' about the lump despite never seeing me. Gp seen me again on 17th Aug and I also have a rash so was referred again. No word for 3 weeks so called on 8th Sept to be told about the 10 week delay.. Obviously the 2 week window is out the bloody window in Scotland. X

  • Really sorry to hear you are also waiting for so long. I phoned my GP yesterday and they don't think there is much they can do if the hospital are stating 10 weeks to wait. I have annual mammograms (last one last Nov) but I am worried as the lump and thickening feel new, also worried I have a swollen lymph node below my neck on the left side as well. I really hope you hear something soon, I don't think I can afford to go private x

  • Finally got an appointment through for 10th October. Sleepless nights, no appetite and fearing the worst possible outcome. So so sad today x have you heard anything yet KB18? x

  • Have you had any word yet? x my appointment now through for 10th October. Feel sick with worry now x

  • Hi, no I've still had no word. I was in hospital on Thursday to have some polyps removed from my colon and they found another.large one which they couldn't remove then but have sent off biopsies from it. The nurse there even said to me it was shocking I've to wait so long.  I don't think there can be a connection with the breast lump but it's another worry waiting to find out if.this large polyp is cancerous.

So glad you've got ur appt, good luck, hope its good news for you x
