Thigh lump and leg pain

For around 3 months I’ve had a bad right leg. It feels like deep muscle pain in the back of the thigh, almost like a burning ache and it travels down into the knee and ankle, a bit like sciatica. I suffer with back sciatica which strangely went away around the time this began.

I found a bulge type lump in the front of my thigh a week or so ago, this itself is painless, even when I’m feeling it, it’s soft enough to push into but I wouldn’t say it moves, it’s almost like it’s part of my muscle but it’s definitely not present in the left leg. I’m so worried it could be sarcoma after Googling it, especially as the pain is in the same leg and is so bad it affects me walking after being sat for long periods. The pain relieves if I’m stood and walking around for a bit but I’m now worried sick about the lump. I’m close to calling the GP but feel like I’m wasting their time, and also like I’m to worried to know the outcome.
Has anyone else had a bulgy lump and leg pain like this?

Thanks

  • Might be worth adding I can only feel the lump when my leg is bent and the thigh tensed, I cannot feel it all if the time especially if my leg is out flat and the muscle is relaxed and ‘soft’. Thanks again

  • Hello Lam12

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so anxious after recently finding a lump in your leg.

We would suggest that anyone who discovers a new lump or has concerns about a pre-existing lump gets this checked by their GP as they are best placed to give you some reassurance and arrange any appropriate tests.

We know that many people turn to the internet when they have health concerns. Unfortunately what happens most often is that people are left feeling even more worried and anxious and still without a firm diagnosis. Try to remember that there could be any number of reasons for the symptoms you've described so try to remain positive.

I hope that your GP is able to give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
