Waiting results

Hi all,

My mum has had some biopsies taken and an mri for vulvar cancer.

We have been told to prepare for the worse.

My mum had a stroke 5 years ago and has communication difficulties 75% brain damage and paralysed right side .

She understands everything going on, we have discussed what is going on and she is saying she doesn't want to know the results, if they are worse case sinario. She also doesn't want treatment if its not curable.

She's fine with me knowing the results, as I'm her full time carer.

Will the hospital consultant give me the results if she gives permission

Thank you in advance

  • Welcome to the forum Jane although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

This must be a very anxious time for you and your mum but I'm glad you've reached out to us as you'll find our community is full of very supportive and caring members who have been on similar journeys so you are not alone and I'm sure it won't be long until some of them stop by to share their experiences and advice.

In regards to your question about you receiving your mum's results, I would suggest giving one of our nurses a call as they're very knowledgeable in this area. You can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to help you at this time.

We're thinking of you Jane and hope you and your mum won't have to wait too much longer for her results to come through.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I am sorry you are going through this with mum. It can be so stressful seeing those we love struggle with their health.

Your mum's doctor will be happy to tell you the results if your mum gives her permission to her confidential information to be shared with you. This is quite normal practice.

Do take your list of questions with you when you attend the appointment so you can go through everything with her doctor.

I have posted here a link to our vulval cancer page, and here is our page of looking after someone with cancer in case they are useful.

I hope you have some support during this time. Do no hesitate to call us if you want to talk through anything. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
