Negative smear but sent to colposcopy anyway

Hi so I’m just looking to see if anybody has had a similar experience. A bit of background info I had abnormal cells in 2016 and turned out to be CIN 3 and had Lletz treatment and biopsy all was ok. all my smears have been normal. recently I have had some strange symptoms for the past 6 months like bad cramping and pelvic pain and lower back pain and I get strange bleeding a week before my period every month when I have a number 2 I have bright red vaginal bleeding that disappears not long after using the toilet so went to gp had a smear came back as normal however doctor wanted to refer me colposcopy as she said my cervix didn’t look normal I went to my appointment on Monday consultant was worried when he saw my cervix and took a few biopsies I asked him outright if it looked like cancer down there and his response was it looks very suspicious on taking the biopsies he admitted I bled more than normal and I was in a lot of pain for two days after. I know it’s a long thread but it’s a lot to get in I’m just wondering if anyone has had something similar after a negative smear.

  • Hello Xlynx

I'm sorry to hear that you're currently waiting on some biopsy results. This period of uncertainty can often be a difficult time for people and it's natural that you may have questions and concerns.

Did the Consultant tell you how long you might have to wait for news? Hopefully it won't be too long before you have some answers and the Consultant will be able to give you some reassurance.

In the meantime, if you think it might help to talk things through with someone you're welcome to call our team of nurses for some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch Xlynx and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
