FIT test? Colonoscopy?

Hopefully I am posting this in the right place.
I have had problems for years with piles and fissures bleeding, stomach pain, bloating etc. But nothing like this.
fir a month now I have been bleeding a lot when I say alot I’m talking multiple blood clots big&small. Toilet bowl filled with blood each time. I ignored this due to my history but After I felt a “bulge” I took mysef to be seen. I was checked for piles and fissures and had an examination there and then, nothing. I had bloods taken straight away (al normal) I was also given this fit test and I had a doctor phone me from the hospital ( think he said he was a surgeon) and said my results are significantly high and I need a colonoscopy within 2/3 weeks and to take the first appointment available. He did mention the C word but taking in my age I think this is very unlikely..I am absolutely dreading a colonoscopy I was actually trying to get out of having it done.I struggled just with the examination. Given my history can piles cause this amount of bleeding ? I’ve had bleeding before but only streaks this is like a cup full each time. And my stools have now gone from constipation to full on watery. Still with blood but I have not updated my doctor due to waiting for my appointment anyway do I need to inform them? Sorry for the long post! Thank you if you read this! I will add I’m only 25.

  • Welcome to the forum Bear567 although I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms and for the worry they're understandably causing.

Unfortunately I can't answer your question about piles in relation to the amount of bleeding you're currently experiencing but fingers crossed your appointment comes through soon and you'll be a step closer to getting some answers and much needed peace of mind.

If you've noticed your symptoms have changed since you last spoke with your GP, then do let them know as they may be able to chase things up for you.

Hopefully some of our members will share their thoughts and advice with you soon as well but in the meantime, we're thinking of you Bear and wishing you all the best with your colonoscopy when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,  your post is so similar to mine.  for years had fissures and piles.  So when I have a small bleed I get it checked and it's always a fissure.  I had been fine for a year but  this morning I had more blood than normal.  Went to doctor expecting similar diagnosis but she said no tear.  Ive had to do a FIT test and waiting for results.

Very worried.  Hope it's just internal piles

  • Thank you so much for the reply!

  • Yes I don’t usually go as I usually know my own body but after the amount of blood I was loosing I thought it best to mention. They have suggested it’s colorectal cancer on the report but after reading majority of posts it’s very unlikely hopefully that will be our outcomes too! I am sure there probably will be piles found but I just don’t know if that amount of blood for over a month could be from a simple pile.

  • I've had piles 3 times, high up, each time bleeding occasionally over  two weeks, took meds to soften everything and it seemed to clear up.  Diagnosed with colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy.  My fissures I have had for 20 years.  I only go to doctors if I have a bad flare up.  Today seemed different it was the amount of blood.  I had read and googled, come to the conclusion everyone symptoms are similar with different outcomes.

.let's hope our outcomes are the same

  • Hi, do you have any update? I’m in a similar situation. Hope you’re well!
