Visible breast ‘lump’

Hi all, new here and driving myself a little bit crazy.
Had found a breast lump about 4 weeks ago - GP confirmed ‘thickening and lump’ and referred as USC -  have appointment in breast clinic in a week.
Lump is now quite prominent as has grown by about 50% in last 10 days. I’ve also noticed some dimpling but only in certain positions.
I’ve not really spoken to anyone about it as don’t want to worry my husband and hopefully will be nothing to worry about, but am panicking.
Thanks for being a sounding board xx

  • HI Zebrafish,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are in the unenviable position of waiting for your appointment. This is always a worrying time, but if it has grown this much in the last 10 days, let's hope that there's a simple explanation. Only 2 people out of every 10, who attend the breast clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis. Not all lumps are cancerous - many turn out to be benign cysts or fibrous changes. Try to keep yourself busy for the next few days.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Zebrafish,

My GP told me to let them know if there was any chances. Maybe contact and see if they can chase it up?

I told my husband because I was driving myself mad. I was convinced I imagined the lump, even though I keep looking for it to make sure I'm not imaginging things. I haven't told anyone else though.

  • Ive asked for my husband to come with me to the appointment because if it's bad news I need someone there.

  • Thank you for the reply. I might try calling gp again and letting them know. Didn’t even think to do that. Thank you.
I was the same with imagining, was worried I’d wasted gps time. Have you tried calling the hospital to chase the referral? I rang to ask if they’d received it and they told me 3 week wait, then letter 2 days later.
I find myself stressing about my husband rather than concentrating on myself - so better on my own initially.
Hope you hear something back with an appt quickly too

  • I never thought of calling them directly. I'll try that today. Thanks.

Let me know how you get on with the appointment.

  • Hi, your symptoms sound very similar to mine, I also have quite a large lump on my left breast, I noticed it around 4 weeks ago but left it thinking it would go away. Seen my GP last Wednesday and I’ve now got my appointment at the breast clinic on Wed morning, so glad it’s come quickly but also quite worrying. My breast also dimples when I left my arm up above my head, and if I clench my fist. Please keep us updated hopefully we will both have the all clear soon xx

  • Good luck to both of you xx

  • Got my appointment for the 3rd of October.

    Three weeks of worry.

  • Oh no way, at least you have your appointment now though, I really feel for you having to wait that long if you’re worrying anything like me it will drive you do-lally. You need to try and keep yourself busy.

I will let you know how everything goes on Wednesday so you have an idea what to expect etc.

make sure you look after yourself and try not to worry too much, sending positive thoughts and love xx

  • I’m glad you have an appointment date now, but I’m sorry it’s a few weeks away.
As Lebell says try and keep your mind occupied - although we know how hard that is.
Thinking of you and sending lots of love xx
