Urgent referral for breast lump

Hi all,

I’m new here, hope you’re all doing ok - thanks for reading my post.

it’s 2.40am and having real trouble sleeping at the moment as the panic has set in - I’ve been ok up until now.

I noticed some lumpy areas in my left breast and got an appointment last Friday at the docs, who have referred me to the breast clinic under the 2 week period (still awaiting an appointment).

in 2021, I found a lumpy area in my right breast in the inner lower quadrant and had a ultrasound which revealed it was a lipoma. I mentioned this to the doc last Friday who didn’t examine this breast. I have now realised that what I assumed was the lipoma in the same area is now possibly an additional hard lump and I’m now worrying myself silly - I don’t remember the lipoma feeling so hard but have assumed for a long time it was the original lipoma.

I know it’s worth awaiting my appointment at the breast clinic  rather than going back to the doctors as they can’t do anything, it’s just trying to manage the anxiety and the horrible spiralling thoughts.

please let me know if you have any tips for handling the worry for anyone else in the same boat - thanks for reading my early morning ramblings!

love to you all x

  • Morning all

Same as you all went to see doctor on Friday had letter today for breat clinic week today

Is ut normal for appointment to come so fast

I found one lump in right upper side of breast but during doctor exam found a further 2 in arm pit can not get it off my brain and had a melt down friday night

  • Hey Missty,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you’re having a tough time with worry.

like others have said, it’s all very normal to receive your referral very quickly. I received a referral review letter in the post the day after my doctors appointment, but then it took a few weeks to get my appointment (due to the waitlist in my area and recent strikes) whereas others received their appointments much quicker than me.

I’m pleased you’ve managed to get an appointment so soon, but please don’t read anything into this.

it’s incredibly hard to focus on anything else when you’re so anxious, but honestly, having a good cry and getting those emotions out are so important. I hope you have a good support network around you - do try and keep yourself busy if you can. Watch a few episodes of something to take your mind off things or take yourself out for a lovely walk somewhere pretty and soak up nature.

Let us know how you get on, we are all here to chat anytime xx

  • Hi Goonergirl, hopefully it’s fine and they just want to discuss your results face to face, I’ll have my fingers crossed for you, I had my MRI today, I feel like my breast has changed since my original referral appointment so really hoping nothing has changed when I get my results xx

  • Thank you Lebell- hopefully that’s all it is, and hopefully also they will tell me when my surgery will be. I just want to get it done now.

I hope your MRI all went smoothly- I quite enjoyed the lie down! Hopefully nothing has changed for you xx

  • Thank you hopefully not, my chemo is provisionally booked in for 20th but finally have all my results back and I’m triple negative, so 12 weeks of weekly chemo.

im sure they always seem to want to talk things through face to face whether good or bad I’m sure it will be fine, crossing my fingers for you let us know how you get on xx

  • Hi Goonergirl it’s probably just policy that they talk everything through face to face. My dad had prostrate cancer and I remember he had to keep going in to see consultant nothing was sent in post or said over phone. Sometimes he didn’t even know why he was having  to go in to see the consultant. So hopefully it’s just that. Sorry  you are having yet more worry of not knowing what’s going on I am sending you a virtual hug xx

  • Hi Lebell glad that you finally have your results and you know when your treatment will be starting. Sorry it is going to be for the 12 weeks I have everything crossed for you x

  • I’m glad you finally have all of your results back- the waiting is always the worst part, isn’t it? I will admit that I don’t actually understand what triple negative means, even though I’ve seen a lot of people refer to it.
I’m sure you’re right about the wanting to talk things through face to face. I don’t know why I’d convinced myself otherwise! I’ll just feel better once I know what’s happening for sure xx

  • Thanks Ruby- I expect that’s all it is. It’s the not knowing that worries us all, isn’t it? Hopefully it will be saying that all is as they thought and setting a date for surgery xx

  • I’ve just googled it, and now know what triple negative means!! It also now makes sense of something in my letter from the hospital!

  • Lebel

glad you had your mri. And it went well

but at least with triple negative you don’t need to take hormone therapy afterwards, my bestie had triple negative, she’s finished everything now and doing absolutely amazing you will too xxx
