Urgent referral for breast lump

Hi all,

I’m new here, hope you’re all doing ok - thanks for reading my post.

it’s 2.40am and having real trouble sleeping at the moment as the panic has set in - I’ve been ok up until now.

I noticed some lumpy areas in my left breast and got an appointment last Friday at the docs, who have referred me to the breast clinic under the 2 week period (still awaiting an appointment).

in 2021, I found a lumpy area in my right breast in the inner lower quadrant and had a ultrasound which revealed it was a lipoma. I mentioned this to the doc last Friday who didn’t examine this breast. I have now realised that what I assumed was the lipoma in the same area is now possibly an additional hard lump and I’m now worrying myself silly - I don’t remember the lipoma feeling so hard but have assumed for a long time it was the original lipoma.

I know it’s worth awaiting my appointment at the breast clinic  rather than going back to the doctors as they can’t do anything, it’s just trying to manage the anxiety and the horrible spiralling thoughts.

please let me know if you have any tips for handling the worry for anyone else in the same boat - thanks for reading my early morning ramblings!

love to you all x

  • Morning all

Same as you all went to see doctor on Friday had letter today for breat clinic week today

Is ut normal for appointment to come so fast

  • Hey Missty,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you’re having a tough time with worry.

like others have said, it’s all very normal to receive your referral very quickly. I received a referral review letter in the post the day after my doctors appointment, but then it took a few weeks to get my appointment (due to the waitlist in my area and recent strikes) whereas others received their appointments much quicker than me.

I’m pleased you’ve managed to get an appointment so soon, but please don’t read anything into this.

it’s incredibly hard to focus on anything else when you’re so anxious, but honestly, having a good cry and getting those emotions out are so important. I hope you have a good support network around you - do try and keep yourself busy if you can. Watch a few episodes of something to take your mind off things or take yourself out for a lovely walk somewhere pretty and soak up nature.

Let us know how you get on, we are all here to chat anytime xx

  • I was told it would take about 35 minutes but I didn’t actually notice the time they actually started and finished. It sounds like a long time to lay still but I was comfortable so it wasn’t a problem. I certainly didn’t find it scary- which some people (not here) had suggested it was. There are lots of noises but nothing too loud or sudden xx

  • Hi Snoopydoo,

I am glad to hear that your symptoms were due to cysts and nothing more untoward. This must come as a great relief to you. Do you wear a good supportive bra? If not, this might help with the weight and tenderness.

    I'm so delighted for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Sycamore,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and hope that all goes well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Missty,

I'm so glad to hear that your new appointment has come through for next Monday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Sandpiper,

I am delighted to hear that you've got good news and I'm sure that this will provide some hope for those awaiting their results. It would be great to have your future support on this forum. Sadly, those with good results, usually disappear into the ether and get on with their lives. Those who get a cancer diagnosis tend to stay and this can skew the results for those newly seeking support.

    I'm so pleased for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • That’s good that it isn’t painful. Happy for you that it hasn’t been anything untoward xx

  • Oh Lebell I am sorry for your news. I don’t really understand the receptor stuff and I am scared to Google at moment. So can’t say I fully understand what it means but Chemo does sound scary but hopefully your body will respond well and it will get rid of the cancer for good which is the light at end of it all. Then you can hopefully go on living your life to the max. I have however had 2 MRI’s previously on my back including one when I was heavily pregnant and I can assure you they are nothing to worry about very noisy hence the headphones but other than that fine. Hope this gives some reassurance if I can’t reassure on anything else. Sending you a big hug and enjoy those mojitos x

  • Hey Missty glad you have another appointment to get this over with. I am dreading mine Thursday keeping busy to try and take mins off it x

  • Yes exactly that got to keep busy or we will go crazy!

Good luck for tomorrow all fingers crossed for you x
