Urgent referral for breast lump

Hi all,

I’m new here, hope you’re all doing ok - thanks for reading my post.

it’s 2.40am and having real trouble sleeping at the moment as the panic has set in - I’ve been ok up until now.

I noticed some lumpy areas in my left breast and got an appointment last Friday at the docs, who have referred me to the breast clinic under the 2 week period (still awaiting an appointment).

in 2021, I found a lumpy area in my right breast in the inner lower quadrant and had a ultrasound which revealed it was a lipoma. I mentioned this to the doc last Friday who didn’t examine this breast. I have now realised that what I assumed was the lipoma in the same area is now possibly an additional hard lump and I’m now worrying myself silly - I don’t remember the lipoma feeling so hard but have assumed for a long time it was the original lipoma.

I know it’s worth awaiting my appointment at the breast clinic  rather than going back to the doctors as they can’t do anything, it’s just trying to manage the anxiety and the horrible spiralling thoughts.

please let me know if you have any tips for handling the worry for anyone else in the same boat - thanks for reading my early morning ramblings!

love to you all x

  • Morning all

Same as you all went to see doctor on Friday had letter today for breat clinic week today

Is ut normal for appointment to come so fast

I found one lump in right upper side of breast but during doctor exam found a further 2 in arm pit can not get it off my brain and had a melt down friday night

  • Hey Missty,

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you’re having a tough time with worry.

like others have said, it’s all very normal to receive your referral very quickly. I received a referral review letter in the post the day after my doctors appointment, but then it took a few weeks to get my appointment (due to the waitlist in my area and recent strikes) whereas others received their appointments much quicker than me.

I’m pleased you’ve managed to get an appointment so soon, but please don’t read anything into this.

it’s incredibly hard to focus on anything else when you’re so anxious, but honestly, having a good cry and getting those emotions out are so important. I hope you have a good support network around you - do try and keep yourself busy if you can. Watch a few episodes of something to take your mind off things or take yourself out for a lovely walk somewhere pretty and soak up nature.

Let us know how you get on, we are all here to chat anytime xx

  • Thank you Lebell, My ‘kids’ are adult but still live at home. It’s been a real struggle trying to be normal around them. We’ve had some really tough times with my daughter’s mental health over the years, and and the moment she’s in a good place, and everyone seems happy and calm. I just hate the thought of having to give them bad news. Still. I don’t actually know it’s bad news yet, so I need to stop thinking this way - easier said than done of course xx

  • Hi GoonerGirl,

It's never easy telling loved ones. You'll find that they take it better if you are positive about the outcome. Here's hoping that you'll have no need to tell them at all.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you Jolamine.

I’ve just had a call for go for an MRI scan, so I think I can already assume that they aren’t going to give me good news tomorrow. Do you now what they are able to find out from an MRI, that they haven’t already from the ultrasound, biopsy etc?

  • Oh bless you

Are you going for mri today or tomorrow when you go for your results,

    Wish you all best x

  • Thank you Missty,

MRI on Monday. They wanted to do it tomorrow but it’s at a different hospital and I wouldn’t have got from the results to the MRI in time.
I feel so much worse about tomorrow and the results now. There was just that little bit of positivity that was keeping me going, and now that’s all gone x

  • Hi everyone,

just got back from my ultrasound appointment. They think it’s just fatty tissue, but where I’ve been prodding around obsessively, I’ve bruised myself quite badly which showed trauma on the US, so it was preventing the lump in question showing through properly.

They did say that they didn’t think it was anything sinister and that cancer would have shown through despite bruising. They said it was fine and not to worry, but can’t help but feel I’d be more reassured if the lump was visible & confirmed as a lipoma.

oh well, a big lesson to anyone awaiting an appointment - do not obsessively poke/prod around your breast tissue as it can cause damage and will take some time to heal.

my thoughts are with you all awaiting your appointments and those dealing with unwanted news. Always here to chat. Xx

  • Hi GoonerGirl,

I am sending you so much love ahead of your MRI tomorrow.

    xx

  • What time is your results tomorrow

Don't lose hope yet it maybe just looking to see if it's a fluid filled cyst (dr google again that's my life at the minute)

It's a blessing you have results tomorrow and they haven't put it off till see the mri imaging.
