Larynx biopsy

Hello all, I have recently (8 days ago) had a biopsy on my larynx under general. After I was a little sore but felt pretty ok but in the last 4 days the site is SO sore I can’t swallow at all, it’s also painful in my ear. I don’t know if this is normal or if I have an infection maybe? I tried calling the hospital but they fobbed me off to my GP. This whole thing started for me because I had a sore throat since March. Initially they thought this could be acid reflux but the endoscopy showed a lesion on my larynx and in a slightly strange place for reflux hence the biopsy. In the meantime they gave me some reflux medication which actually seemed to have helped but now the throat is about the worst it has been…. Anyone else had similar after a biopsy? I don’t really know what’s normal and what I should do.

  • Hello Katiethedubs,

I am so sorry to hear this has happened to you and the endoscopy showed a lesion on your larynx - I hope that the biopsy will shed some light on what is going on and that you will hear from other members of our forum who have experienced something similar after a biopsy. You mentioned that your throat is now at the worst it has been and it might be worth getting in touch with your GP and explaining that the site is really sore and you are struggling to swallow at all and you have this pain in your ear. If swallowing is so difficult that you can't drink any water, or find it hard to eat or drink, it would be a good idea to get medical advice urgently. You could if it gets really bad go to A and E or get in touch with 111 over the weekend for medical advice out of hours.

I hope things improve for you soon and that others who have been in a similar situation will be along shortly to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
