Lump on axillart tail not shown on ultrasound

Hi all hoping to see if anyone has had the same experience as me and any advice.

I found a lump on the side of my boob between my boob and armpit. I mentioned this in a doctors appointment to which I was told it could wait and I would need to come back for that issue.

A week later I went back and had a breast examination where the doctor found a 2-3cm hard lump and told me he was going to refer me. He then called me 3 days later to tell me my referal was urgent as they was seriously concerned about cancer. I’m only 26 but I was extremely worried!

Today I had my appointment at the breast clinic, the consultant seemed busy and rushed off his feet. He asked me to show him where the lump was, felt it, agreed it was there and drew around part of it then sent me for an ultrasound. The lump didn’t show up on the ultrasound. The lady doing it did say it may be hormonal. From what I can find online these usually go up and down and can be painful at times. It has seemed to get a little bigger and isn’t painful at all. I’ve had 2 periods since finding this and have been checking it regularly. I waited to see the consultant to which he said there is nothing there so naturally I questioned this as he, myself and my gp had all felt it and he has drawn around it so clearly there must be something. When I asked him is he sure it’s nothing sinister his response was are you not happy you don’t have cancer?

I’m shocked at how abrupt the consultant was from start to finish however I don’t feel reassured in any way as we agreed there is a lump and now it’s not shown on the ultrasound there isn’t anything there. I’m confused and although I’m happy they’re not worried I don’t feel like i can asked for a second opinion without it seeming like I want it to be cancer?! Everything I’ve read on here if the lump hasn’t shown on the ultrasound they’ve taken a biopsy but that’s not something I’ve been offered.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Sausagedogmumx.

I'm  sorry to hear about your recent experience at the breast clinic. It's completely understandable to feel concerned and confused given the conflicting information.

Considering the persistence of the lump and the uncertainty surrounding it, you might want to consider discussing your concerns with your GP once again. It may be a good idea to explain the situation, including your interactions with the consultant, and express your need for further evaluation or a second opinion.

Hopefully others who have had a similar experience will come along shortly to offer more advice. Until then, stay strong and please remember we're always here for when you need a chat.

    With warm wishes,
