Cause?

I presented to the GP in June for joint pain and bilateral leg swelling. They asked how my stools were and I mentioned that I thought I may have pile as I have experienced constipation and diarrhoea plus intermittent blood in stool. She asked me to attend and carried out a manual examination. No evidence of blockage or piles. FIT test carried out. FIT test normal but calprotectin level was 19,815. Blood tests have show Severe Vitamin D deficiency and Iron deficiency anaemia. I have family history of bowel cancer, so with this all together how likely is this all linked and is this a sign of Colon cancer or IBD? I'm not scared, just wondering what the red flag test result ranges are to warrant further investigation? I am a 35 year old female, if this makes any difference.

  • Hello Sammiescarlett

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing health problems recently and that your most recent tests results have been returned outside of their normal ranges. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned about what may be the cause of your symptoms.

You don't mention it in your post but I presume your GP has referred you for further investigations? Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the appointments and the specialist will be able to give you some answers and reassurance.

We know that for many people this period of waiting for appointments and answers can be difficult. It may help to chat things through with one of our nurses. I'm sure they would be happy to offer any advice and support they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
