Positive fit test and colonoscopy result.

Hi,Id just like to share my experiences that ive been through over the last few weeks for the benefit of people who are going through the same thing.

Im a 50 year old male and I recently had a fit test result of 16. Not massively over but over nonetheless. Immediately I'm thinking the worse and I was convinced I had bowel cancer. I'd noticed blood whilst wiping on the odd occasion which I'd never seen before. My other symptoms were a change in my toilet habits and occasionally I'd get stomach pains. I'm going to sound like a hypocrite here but stay off Google as it sent me doolally! My anxiety was worsened as well by a work colleague who's recently had bowel cancer but has since made a full recovery.

Just because your fit test is high it doesn't mean you have cancer. It could be lots of things. Believe me I was the world's worst at being anxious to the point that it made me I'll. Share your thoughts with family and this forum helped me as well.

I had my colonoscopy today. They were really nice and helpful and made me feel totally at ease. The pre examination drink was fowl but I split my drinks into quarter measures and had one every 15 minutes, then the other 4 a few hours later. Be warned though, don't stray to far from a toilet. My colonoscopy was ok, I had the sedation and barely felt anything. They found I had internal piles,4 polops that they removed and I also have colitis. Apparently the colitis can cause slight bleeding. It's quite enflamed down there which I now have to take suppositories for the next month to hopefully get it back to normal.

Don't be Afraid it could be anything and you really need to have the colonoscopy to give you the all clear and peace of mind.

Good luck and thank you to the good people on here who helped me.

Take care.

Steve.

  • I have done a long message above if you can see it on whst happened today. Thank you for your message though

  • It is and he’s a Prison Officer as well which isn’t good, but their understanding, xx

  • Oh bless you..what a roller coaster of a day...all that preparation you did too...I had same sounding CT scan..abdomen and chest and with contrast which is where they put this dye in via a candler to show anything up..mine was arranged for 12 days after the colonoscopy so fairly quickly..as I'm claustrophobic I got 3 diazepam from my GP but only used 2 of them and it was fine..kept my eyes shut though..no prep needed and you keep your clothes on...but what a day you've had xx

  • Was it a PET scan Amanda, that shows up more than a CT I think, husband had one of them. Well what a waist of your time and all that worry now you have to wait again. Not saying this to worry you when Mart was going to have a thing down his throat the chap said when he got there he wasn’t going to do it as couldn’t see anything the CT scan so home he came, the urologist (kidney cancer) wrote to the chap saying to do it, they did and found his stomach cancer, so please just make sure that something is done and not left. I hope I haven’t frightened you Amanda and I’m sure it’ll be sorted out soon xxx

  • Is it called CT with contrast? I have had that, of the chest, abdomen and pelvis. They put something in a canula in your arm.

  • Hi everyone, I’m hoping you’re all well as not heard from you for a few days, Helen, Amanda and Sam how’s things going for you have you heard anything. Wishing you all well x

  • Hi Sue and everyone, was going to message tonight, had breast clinic today, saw doctor first she felt my breasts and found another lump so had to go for ultrasound, had that done doctor who done it said the lump found today was just tissue but the lump found on CT scan he thinks its fibroadenoma but not 100 per cent sure so done a biopsy took 2 samples got to go back on the 8th November (2 weeks) for results, it measures about 3cm xx

  • Well I just had to google that and it’s sounding not so bad, how are you feeling about it?  I do hope it’s nothing to worry about, I know it’ll seem ages till you get results but just try and stay positive. Keeping everything crossed for you xx

  • Hi Sue, I'm just waiting till I see the Consultant on the 13th to find out what they are going to do to remove polyp...will either be surgery or another colonoscopy..I'm hoping won't be surgery..they will get the CT report and blood test results etc to decide.. I had a routine mammogram last Friday and that's all clear and not heard about anything else from CT scan so I'm hoping nothing bad other found...still worrying about it all but just got to be patient as still 3 weeks before I know anything.. how are you and Martin doing? Xx

  • Hi Sam..that's good news then..hows the blood thining meds going? You've a wait too like me...so much time waiting for results there is..and I was told doctors strike is impacting how long people waiting as there are still backlogs x
