Positive fit test and colonoscopy result.

Hi,Id just like to share my experiences that ive been through over the last few weeks for the benefit of people who are going through the same thing.

Im a 50 year old male and I recently had a fit test result of 16. Not massively over but over nonetheless. Immediately I'm thinking the worse and I was convinced I had bowel cancer. I'd noticed blood whilst wiping on the odd occasion which I'd never seen before. My other symptoms were a change in my toilet habits and occasionally I'd get stomach pains. I'm going to sound like a hypocrite here but stay off Google as it sent me doolally! My anxiety was worsened as well by a work colleague who's recently had bowel cancer but has since made a full recovery.

Just because your fit test is high it doesn't mean you have cancer. It could be lots of things. Believe me I was the world's worst at being anxious to the point that it made me I'll. Share your thoughts with family and this forum helped me as well.

I had my colonoscopy today. They were really nice and helpful and made me feel totally at ease. The pre examination drink was fowl but I split my drinks into quarter measures and had one every 15 minutes, then the other 4 a few hours later. Be warned though, don't stray to far from a toilet. My colonoscopy was ok, I had the sedation and barely felt anything. They found I had internal piles,4 polops that they removed and I also have colitis. Apparently the colitis can cause slight bleeding. It's quite enflamed down there which I now have to take suppositories for the next month to hopefully get it back to normal.

Don't be Afraid it could be anything and you really need to have the colonoscopy to give you the all clear and peace of mind.

Good luck and thank you to the good people on here who helped me.

Take care.

Steve.

  • This is reassuring I just wish I could get the colonoscopy done to be sure.

  • Yes I bet it was a shock bless you x

  • Thank you. Yes I'm driving myself around the twist now too with Google it's so upsetting.

  • That's great news about your colonoscopy x

  • I've been doing the same..since my colonoscopy I've been googling all the terminology used in the print out they gave me..they gave me photos of the polyp they left in there So have been endlessly googling images too! So much waiting and worrying we all have..

  • I assumed they removed the polyps if there was any. Will they go back in then to remove it. Its awful all this waiting it's the worse. I have my appointment now it's next week the 19th Oct so not long to wait x

  • Helen what do they do about the polyp they didn’t remove, is it another colonoscopy or something? We have at very long last got a date for my husband’s colonoscopy 9.45 on Friday, I feel better about having a date and just hope he’s told what they think the polyps are, I need to be in with him when they have that talk I think as he only hears what he wants to hear.
Its 3/4 hour drive to the hospital will he be ok, he has a kinda pad to put on, I can’t drive so it’s no sedation for him.
How are you getting on Helen when do you find out about your polyps, they did remove some didn’t they and sent for biopsy, hope that they come back clear of everything.
Im sure I’ll have more questions to ask before Friday and the dreaded moviprep that I refer to as the devils ***.
you all take care hugs to you all x

  • Hi Sue..they will take it out..if malignant then by surgery and if not then would be another colonoscopy this time by a Dr..really good you got a date and not long to wait..I expect they will photograph each one and they'll take out small ones and take biopsies of any bigger ones..my partner was with me to hear the results.

I'm waiting to hear results of mine..they said 5 to 7 days and that if they'd not heard by today ie day 6then they will chase.

I had a 45 min drive to the hospital..the 2nd drink I had at 7am and we left home just after 12 and everything had stopped by then..i took spare clothes, towel, loo roll and wipes but didn't need any of them..

Hope your husband not getting too anxious about Friday xx

  • That's good you got a date so not long to wait..yes they'll have to go back in to remove it..they couldn't tell what sort of a polyp was so left it till they can find out..which is worrying in itself x

  • Ah bless you so you will have to go through it again. Hope its good news for you. I'm keeping everything crossed for you x
