Worried about armpit lump- waiting for appointment letter-need advice please

I’m a 22 year female and I’m doing my best to only search symptoms from reputable sources, mainly the NHS. But I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced similar as I’m waiting for an ultrasound appointment letter (nearly 3 weeks since gp).

I have a softish lump/swelling in my right armpit that’s getting more and more tender and achey. It started about 4 months ago, I took note but I figured it was just fat/excess breast tissue. As far as I know I haven’t been particularly ill or had an infection in the recent months. It’s grown, still feels fleshy but when I put my arm down it feels achey and like there’s a ball of material caught up under my arm. It’s recently started to make my whole right arm have a dull persistent ache. It’s not debilitating but I’m very aware of it. No infections that I’m aware of and no recent vaccines.

I’m autistic and I’m pretty sure it’s likely to be lipoma or something like that but I like to research and know all the possibilities while I wait. Between my gp surgery and the royal mail, I’m getting a little antsy to get it the letter to get it figured out.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

  • Hiya, believe it or not, but pain is good. Cancer doesn't tend to hurt unless it's pressing on a nerve. If it's sore to touch, then it's likely to be a cyst or something similar. Those can hurt as they can become infected.

As for researching, no one can tell you what you may or may not have. Only an in person appointment, and if they think it warrants one, a biopsy can tell you what you have. Google usually throws up cancer regardless, so you're gaining nothing by "researching" other than to convince yourself you have cancer, because google told you. You're basically asking it to throw out that answer by typing in "armpit lump". It's all it really knows.
