2 week wait for upper GI investigation

Hello all,

I have been referred for a 2 week urgent referral as I have had a cough for 8 weeks. Chest x Ray clear and have had anti biotics. 

For the last 5 weeks I've been choking on food, fluids and even saliva. 

Has anyone experienced this before, and has anyone experienced similar issues with the choking and ongoing cough? I'm a little confused that it's for upper GI investigations into a cough.

  • Welcome to the forum WobzAM although I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms and that you're now awaiting a referral.

    Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040.     Hi WobzAM,

    The guidelines for people having difficulty swallowing are to refer for urgent upper GI endoscopy. Although there may be several causes the urgent referral is to rule out or identify any concerning causes of your symptoms. I can see you posted a little over 2 weeks so I hope you’ve had your investigation and that all has gone well.
