Bleeding and Lower Back Pain - Cervical worry

Hi all,

My wife is suffering from lower back pain and bleeding in personal areas (if you catch me). Definitely not cycle or pregnant or age of change.

She has a doctors appointment in three days and I’ve had in my direct family THREE people who have been told by the doctors everything is ok to turn out (significantly) not to be the case. One person was allowed to have cancer develop for years, another allowed cancer to develop for one year and another who had a blood clot in her lungs to go undiagnosed. The last person only realised because she had a gut feeling and got access to her records for a nurse relative to say blood tests were screaming blood clot.

Fair to say my trust in GPs is absolutely rock bottom. Dr Google says my wife’s symptoms are strongly linked to cervical cancer. I want the full range of tests and definitely not to be fobbed off. I also want the tests performed as a matter of urgency. Does anybody have any recommendations of to allow this to happen? Also, anything we should be expressing to the doctor? I hate the wait of days just to (hopefully) refer her to a gynaecologist

thank you

  • Hi Beno197,

I can understand your concerns based on your past experiences with your family members, and that this has contributed to reduced trust in the doctors.

The main thing is to go prepared to the appointment, for example with notes on any symptoms - when they started, any trends or changes, etc. - as well as any questions about any of this. The doctor will investigate and if needs be then refer for further testing.

We have a page on our website about making the most of the GP appointment, which may be helpful.

I hope it all goes OK and that your wife is able to get some answers.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

I'm 38 currently having the same symptoms as your wife, my 'monthlys' changed drastically and turned really heavy, along with tiredness, some pelvic and back pain, and now spotting after 'activities' with my husband, currently awaiting my smear results, having bloods taken tomorrow and to be quite honest terrified, its only been a week but really just need my results.
