Mri/biopsy results

Hello. I am new to this and hoping someone could offer some advice to put my mind at ease. I had a hysteroscopy done a week ago following some unpleasant symptoms I’ve been experiencing for roughly 6 months. During the procedure I had various biopsy’s done and was told I had a fullness that could be felt in the right adnexa, which happens to be the area im experiencing all the pain from. The surgeon came to me after the procedure and said she wants to order an MRI scan to investigate further as I’ve also had a lot of abnormal bleeding recently. Two days after the procedure I was called in for the MRI with contrast. Obviously this was quick which im very appreciative of but it also unnerved me slightly. Im now currently waiting on my results both from the biopsy and the MRI. Naturally im not a worrier but this is bothering me more than I expected. Has anyone been through something similar and how long did the results take? Is the phrase ‘no news is good news’ always the case. Thank you I’m advance, Sarah x

  • Hello Sarah,

It can be a little unnerving when things are moving fast and it's normal to wonder whether this means there might be something suspicious but as you said, it's great things are moving fast as it means you will have some clarity sooner. Waiting for results is always a very anxious time as anyone who has been in your position will know only too well and while you are waiting I thought I would share these tips with you to help you cope and lessen your anxiety during this stressful time.

There is useful information on our website on MRI scans which mentions you should get your results within 1 to 2 weeks and similarly according to the NHS page on the biopsy, you could get results within a few days.  Contact the doctor who arranged the tests if you haven’t heard anything after a couple of weeks.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have been in a similar situation before and that they will share with you their experiences of getting MRI/biopsy results.

Everything tightly crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine!

    Best wishes,
