Swollen Lymph Nodes

Hi, looking for advice on next steps.

I noticed a lump in my neck a few months ago, then more last month. There is around 4 in total that you can see in my neck.  Dr referred me for an ultrasound which I have now had. The sonographer said they are swollen lymph nodes and I have a few more swollen ones I cannot see/feel too. She will send the report to my GP but swollen lymph nodes are ‘nothing to worry about’.
I am worried because I have other symptoms I have lost around 11kg in short amount of time, I have night sweats, constantly going hot/ small temperatures, headaches, tired- I am taking multiple naps a day as I cannot stay away and the smallest tasks feel unmanageable. I know I am not fighting an infection I am aware of- I don’t get poorly in terms of colds/viruses etc and you would think considering I’ve had them 3 months if that was the case they would have gone down by now?
my question is- if the sonogrpaher just says swollen lymph nodes and nothing to worry about does this mean everything is ok or should I ask for some tests like bloods etc? I don’t know what to do I don’t feel happy with that response as I want to know WHY they would be swollen. Any advice is appreciated as I am just a bit worried.
thank you.

  • Hello Ehemp123

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health problems recently. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned and wondering what may be responsible for the symptoms you've been experiencing.

It's good to hear that the initial ultrasound results haven't given any immediate cause for concern but obviously, this leaves you with more questions. Please do get back in touch with your GP as they are best placed to arrange any further tests or appropriate referrals.

Hopefully you will have some answers soon but if you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there - I could have written your post.  I am in a very similar situation.  I first noticed my lymph nodes (i have 2) left side of my neck back in Sept 21.  They were scanned privately in September last year and told nothing to worry about but they had grown.  They have now grown again but because under 1CM my gp won’t refer me and I’m going to have to pay privately which is very difficult.  They did however do my bloods which were all ok.  I am constantly tired and napping during the day despite taking taking iron supplements, I’ve started to have sweats too and get very hot during the day.  Again because they are not what GP called “drenching” they are not concerned.  Very worried and need to stop googling.   I do think it is reasonable for you to request a blood test.  Good luck.

  • Hi there,

I’ve had the same thing. Mine started in April this year and still remain. I have up to 6 or 7. I’ve stopped counting.

I’ve had appointments and a full blood test that is showing as clear, I was checked for swelling markers and all sorts. However, I am being referred to a haematologist.

my doctor is actually very kind and helpful, he is also realistic.

something he said did make me feel a little better, and I’m hoping it may help here also -

he said “the fact your blood is clear isn’t always a sign nothing is wrong, you need other tests to rule out anything really significant. However, the fact you have had these swollen lymph nodes that have remained the same size (if fact some days they feel slightly smaller than others, but never any bigger) for this long without any major growth, is far from a bad sign. It doesn’t appear to be anything aggressive at this point or we would know by now”

so at the moment, im just staying calm and hoping to have some answers soon. We are fortunate to live in a day and age where even if it is the most awful outcome, we have a lot of treatments at our disposal.

sending well wishes to anybody going through this anxiety and hoping we all find good health soon ️ ️
