Does this mean I have cancer?

Hi

I've posted previously about investigations I've been having for possible ovarian cancer - I have a 14cm cyst on my ovary.

I had an appointment where the Dr said he wanted to do an MRI as the ultrasound had some potentially concerning features. He said I'd get a letter with the results on.

Anyway, I got a text today (no letter yet) 'reminding' me about a gynaecology oncology appointment next week.

Does this mean it is definitely cancer? Can they tell for sure without actually taking it out?

Any advice about what this appointment might involve?

Thanks in advance - I'm panicking!

  • Hello Sunflower123

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting on some test results at the moment. We know that for many people this period of uncertainty can be difficult and given the text message you've had from the hospital this week, it's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It's impossible for anyone to say if this cyst is cancerous until the team has all the information they need to make a diagnosis. Hopefully when you see the Consultant next week they will be able to answer some of your questions and give you some reassurance about the next steps.

It might help to talk things through with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment. I am sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can as well as help you think about any questions you might want to ask the specialist. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Sunflower123 and let us know how you get on next week.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi   I can totally relate to the panic feelings, it’s such an awful position to be in.

they’re probably referred you to that department in order to investigate things further. It’s good that they’re being thorough and hopefully you’ll get some answers soon.

All the best for you appointment next week, will be thinking of you x
