Waiting for breast lump biopsy

Hi everyone I am looking for some advice.
I have had biopsy done on 20/07 and consultant said its likely to be fibrodema.
I got given an phone appointment on the 28/07 but that got cancelled and now I have a face to face appointment on 21/08
Is it a bad sign that I have a face to face appointment instead?
Part of me thinks they would not wait this long if there was something concerning found in the sample ?
Has anyone been in this position?
I live in UK and my biopsy was done in Newcastle

Thank you all in advance

  • Good luck for results love Lara xxx

  • Face to face doesn't mean bad news. I thought the same thing but they tend to do phone appointments when they are really busy but like to see people face to face. I can understand your anxiety about it though.

  • Hi there , they prefer to do face to face so that they can thoroughly explain things and if it’s a fibroadenoma they might just want to keep a check on you x Good luck x

  • Hi Kfiatuszek,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to read anything into the fact that your appointment has been changed to a face-to-face appointment, at a later date - this just extends the agony of yourwait. Most surgeons prefer to give results in person, but due to how busy some clinics are, this often has to be done by post or telephone. It is possible that someone has had to cancel or change an appointment for some reason and you have managed to get their cancellation.  Waiting a month for results, also doesn't indicate whether the news will be good or bad, but I sincerely hope that it will be good.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

  • Hi im in Wales and had a mammogram over two weeks ago

But been told in our area it is normal to wait for at least 4/6

weeks for any results and i did ask if it was longer is that a good sign but they said it doesn’t work like that unfortunately

    fingers crossed for you xx

  • Hi Nicola,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

this is always a worrying time. Whoever you spoke to is absolutely correct. There are longer delays in some parts of the country than others and sadly, the length of time you have to wait on your results is no indication of whether the outcomes are good or bad. Try to console yourself that only 2 people, out of every 10 who attend the breast clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis. Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be benign cysts or fibrous changes.

I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch  and let us know how you get on.
