Confusing colposcopy results...

Hi there,

Having suffered with right-sided pelvic/vaginal pain for 2+ years, the gp finally did an internal examination and discovered a growth on my cervix.  The consultant seemed very positive and said its nothing to worry about, but did a biopsy as a precaution to ensure its nothing sinister.   I have however just received a letter which says "Colposcopy showed viral changes" - this was not mentioned at my appointment at all and now I'm panicking.

My colleague also said that when she went for her cancer appointment they did none of this - just examined and said was definitely an ectropion and did no further investigation.

I've gone from being very positive to feeling very scared as my Nan had cervical cancer.

 Thanks for reading. Xx

I'm sorry to hear that your GP found a growth on your cervix.

While it's easy to appreciate your concerns after receiving the letter, it's essential that you communicate with your doctor about your family history  and your worries if you haven't done that already, as they can provide clarity and guidance. Each case is unique, and different patients may require different investigations.

That being said, if you feel like asking some questions to our team of nurses before your next appointment, they'd be happy to chat with you Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040.

I hope alll turns out ok for you, Strongbot123.

    Best wishes,
